Nigeria midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has said
he is happy to remain with Italian Serie A club Lazio despite the fact
that he was linked with a possible move to a couple of clubs across
Europe.
Onazi, who has scored three goals in 67
appearances for the Lazio since his move from My People FC in 2012, was
reportedly a target for some clubs including Werder Bremen, Everton and
Swansea in the January transfer window.
With the transfer window closed, the
22-year old said he was glad that he can now focus on helping Lazio, who
are ninth on the Serie A table with 32 points from 23 games, do well in
the league.
“I’m glad I stayed here at Lazio. The
important thing for me is to play because football is my life. We have
moved away (from Europa League) but we are positive and we believe. Now
we try to win and get more points (in the Serie A). Now that the
transfer window is closed, we have to work for the championship,”Onazi
told lalaziosiamonoi.it.
Onazi, who played in Lazio’s 2-0
loss at home to Napoli on Wednesday, said they lost to Maurizio Sarri’s
side because they failed to play as a team.
“We had studied the movements of Callejon and Insigne, but we were unable to apply during [the game],” he said.
“If you do not [mount pressure on your opponent], they attack you. If you don’t score, you lose confidence.
“Today goes well, tomorrow it goes
wrong, and that’s football: the important thing is to stay focused for
upcoming games, and keep in mind the lessons.”
Lazio face Genoa away on Saturday.
