Super sub Calvin Odongo scored a late winner
for Posta Rangers against Ushuru FC, in an early Sportpesa Premier League kick
off tie staged at Nyayo National Stadium.
Odongo capitalized on poor defending from
Ushuru defenders to calmly slot home past Shaban Odhonji in goal in the 91st
minute to give the mailmen victory.
Rangers started showing signs of their
intention as early as in the seventh minute. Former Gor Mahia striker Timothy
Otieno’s rasping shot seemed to have been handled in the danger zone by
Ushuru’s Marosowe but the referee waved play on with the technical bench
pleading for a penalty.
In the 12th minute, Ushuru’s was at sixes and
sevens when left-footed Joseph Nyaga found John Mwaura with a good cross but
the latter controlled it weakly allowing Richard Mmboyi to clear the danger.
Ushuru’s best chance in the first half came
after 32 minutes when Philemon Otieno weaved past two defenders before Mbugi
brought him down for a freekick. The ensuing foul by Dennis Wafula was headed
straight to Rangers keeper Patrick Matasi.
Nyaga who was a live wire on the flanks made
a solo run in the 44th minute where he passed to Dennis Mukaisi but while the
latter was haled in his tracks by a superb tackle by defender David Otieno.
