On-form Lazio midfielder Ogenyi
Onazi says the Rome club are desperate to spoil
holders Juventus’ Italian Serie A title party at the Juventus
Stadium in Turin on Wednesday to boost their chances of European football
for next season.
Juventus, who are nine points clear at
the top of the table after winning 24 of their last 25 Serie A
games, will be crowned champions with four games to spare if they defeat
injury-hit Biancocelesti.
The Old Lady, who have won the Scudetto
since 2012, will celebrate a record-equalling fifth consecutive Serie A
title at the expense of their Europa League spot-seeking visitors, having
achieved the feat 81 years ago.
Onazi, who issued a call to arms to his
teammates ahead of today’s clash, says the White and
Blues could not afford to miss out on a place in Europe next season.
“We’re doing our best to get the Europa
League spot,” the 23-year-old was quoted by AFP
as saying on Tuesday.
The South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of
Nations winner scored his first goal of the season after he
converted a pass from veteran German striker Miroslav Klose
to secure victory for Lazio in their 2-0 defeat of Empoli at Stadio
Olimpico on Sunday.
Although Lazio manager Simone
Inzaghi says he is are not under pressure to earn Lazio
a Europa League spot, he will rely on Super Eagles
star Onazi to dictate the game and set up scoring opportunities
for Klose.
“There is nothing to lose,” Inzaghi was
quoted by Italian Football as
saying.
“We’ll have to be quick when we get the ball
back, moving it forward immediately to prevent them from regrouping.”
