The senate of the University of Port Harcourt has shut down the institution for one month with immediate effect.
This
is coming barely 24 hours after the students protested against the increase in
their school fees. The protest, which paralyzed business along the east
west road and academic activities on the campus however made the senate
to shut down the institution to avert more damages.
The
statement also announced the immediate suspension of all students unions and
their affiliate bodies.
Meanwhile,
some reports say two people were killed in the clash between the police and the
students.
